“The three weeks pre-placement training definitely helped me build my confidence and develop those essential skills that I use everyday in the workplace.”
As told by Zahra, current Eagle, working at RBS:
Just before I finished university, I was quite worried about how I was going to be able to break in to the City of London. It sounds odd to say, but finding a job in central London and trying to secure a position in an established company can be rather difficult, time consuming and stressful! Even thinking about it stressed me out.
I first came across the Eagles programme from an email sent to me by my university. After researching further, I thought I would be crazy not to apply – it was literally everything I wanted – a job in the City working for a prestigious company in their CSR department.
As soon as the training started, I immediately noticed that I was surrounded by like-minded individuals all in the same position that I was. It was very comforting to hear and see that I wasn’t the only one who was worried about breaking into the corporate world. We all got along so well with each other it began to feel like a little family, I think I will remember some of the experiences we shared at training for a very long time!
The three weeks pre-placement training definitely helped me build my confidence and develop those essential skills that I use everyday in the workplace. For example, the Excel training and proof reading sessions helped me improve my practical skills, and the sessions on Personal Impact with the National Theatre helped me develop the way I express and carry myself.
I am now in my seventh month of my internship with RBS, working in Sustainability in the Integration and Programmes team until September. Since the beginning of my placement, I felt very valued and involved. My line managers continually go out of their way to help me enhance my skills and provide me with the tools and training that will be beneficial for me now and in the future. I feel confident that my work is being valued and will continue to be used after I move on from this position.
Working at RBS is providing me with opportunities that I never thought I would have. I am able to travel to Edinburgh, attend report launches at fancy hotels around London and be able to explore and talk to so many different people both outside and within the bank.
Being a part of the Eagles scheme has been such a major stepping stone in my career path. If I hadn’t applied for this placement I’m not sure what I would be doing right now. I believe this scheme is what you make it; it will provide you with so many essential skills that you will need not just in your career, but in your personal life too. You also make a new set of friends that support you along the whole process!
