When I was searching for potential career paths, corporate business was not something that came to mind. But I’m glad I considered it. The Eagles graduate programme has introduced me to the corporate world in all its glory.
I graduated from university in July 2016 with a degree in Sociology with Psychology. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the subjects I studied, I wasn’t sure what career path was right for me. In order to keep my options open and in search of new experiences, I applied to the Eagles programme.
The Eagles programme has boosted my confidence and allowed me to showcase my true self. The training they provide helps you become confident in yourself and your abilities, while teaching you the necessary skills needed to work as part of a team, which is an essential part of working in such well known placements.

The people at ELBA are lovely! They have prepared the training programme with an eye for detail as it covers a lot during the 3 weeks. We have had some intense sessions around excel training and proof-reading, practical activities with The National Theatre and a residential trip away at Ashridge Business School. I have also developed existing skills and learnt new ones, which ultimately prepares you for the world of work, from day one.
I am currently working full-time at EY (formerly known as Ernst & Young), a professional services firm, as part of the Eagles programme six-month placement. I joined the Corporate Sustainability and Brand Marketing team within Financial Services. This was an interesting role for me as I am working between two teams. My teams have been so supportive and encouraging, to say the least. My manager has given me responsibility from the first day, which has made me feel a part of the team straight away. I have regular meetings with my managers and counsellors to set goals and update them on my progress. EY is all about their people, ensuring we get the most out of our work.
I can openly express my interest in certain projects and departments at EY because my team are all about my development and encourage me to gain experience in different parts of the firm, to help me get a holistic view of the corporate world, thus shaping my view on potential future career.
My task vary from researching to events management. I have helped conduct several internal audits to ensure the information we choose to display to the outside world is up-to-date and represents EY at its best. I have also organised a corporate dinner for our partnership company. This was an exciting opportunity for me. Organising this event allowed me to put my existing organisational and communication skills to the test, while learning new aspects of event management. I have also had many opportunities to strengthen my eye for detail and creative opinions with the brand side of things, such as, searching and editing images.
It has been interesting so far, to see individuals with different styles of working come together with one purpose, to create a better working world.
Alongside EY, there are many outstanding companies in the City taking part in the Eagles programme, offering skilled graduates a foot-in-the-door to corporate business and the opportunities to grow and gain valuable experience.

Whether you have a career in mind or have no idea what you want to do, I would recommend joining the Eagles programme. It will open your eyes to amazing experiences while improving your skills and boosting your potential.
As for me, I’m really excited to explore more of what the corporate world has to offer, in particular for the education engagement sector, working around bringing together corporate business and young people in education.
